2009 Wells Choral Scholar - Adam Gruber

Adam Gruber's musical star is on the rise. A native of Arlington Heights, Illinois, he has been playing piano and organ since the age of eight, and at sixteen is now interim Parish musician for St. Simons Episcopal Church in Arlington Heights. In 2008, he was honored as the Wells Choral Scholar for Oak Park's acclaimed Handel Week Festival, and was also named an E. Power Biggs Fellow of the Organ Historical Society, and will perform at their National Convention in Cleveland in 2009.

Recently, Adam performed on the live broadcast of "Introductions" on Chicago's classical music station, WFMT. Adam was also presented in recital by the Chicago Midwest Organ Historical Society, the Northwest Indiana Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Cathedral of the Holy Angels in Gary, Indiana. Further, he has been a performer for the Chicago Area Theater Organ Enthusiasts and the Chicago Theater Organ Society. Adam has also performed at the Grace Summer Artist Series at Grace Episcopal in Oak Park, the University of Valparaiso chapter of the AGO, and the 1st Presbyterian Organ Concert Series in Arlington Heights.

A student of Dennis Northway of Chicago, Adam also sings with and has directed the Madrigal Choir at Grace Episcopal Church in Oak Park. Adam has studied theater organ with Jelani Eddington and John Ferguson. Adam also plays keyboards with the Jazz Ensemble and sings with the concert choir at Rolling Meadows High School, where he is a sophomore, and was selected by fellow students as lead singer for the choir. Adam has attended ATOS, OHS, and AGO national conventions and has been to four AGO Pipe Organ Encounters in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Illinois.
