Concert 3 2023

A seldom-performed but delightful masterpiece along with a Handel’s Last Work the Foundling Hospital Anthem H.W.V. 268!
Handel The Foundling Hospital Anthem, or blessed are they that considereth the poor H.W.V. 268 and
The Indian Queen Z. 630 of Henry Purcell
On a text in English by John Dryden

Both of these works are the last music written by each legendary composer. Handel not only produced this luminous anthem as a gift to the Foundling Hospital, but that organization was also a recipient of a significant portion of his fortune after he died! This is his last piece of English church music. The end of the anthem will be a very welcome surprise!! Purcell’s Indian Queen was not completed due to the death of the composer. However the music that remains is delightful, varied, sparkling, playful and well worth a good listen. Join the Handel Week festival chorus on its post-pandemic return along with the orchestra and soloists in a festive afternoon of music!
